GUIDE FOR RETIRMENT LOCATION    PLANNING DECISIONS

FIRST THING FIRST--MOVE OR STAY PUT

Consideration for Moving:

·        Kick Start the Rest of your Life--Relocating is mental and physical stimulating. It can promote personnel growth.  You can discover new interests and opportunities. You can meet interesting people

·        Re-Claim Your Life--You now have 40 to 60 hours each and every week to do all those things you have been putting off until you have time.

·        Shed the Negatives--What ever is bugging you, declining neighborhood, downsizing area, church not meeting you needs, can all be left behind, as you move on to a more positive location.

·        Climate--Never shovel snow or put on chains again.

·        Reduce Costs--Many of the southern states are actively seeking retires, so it is possible to reduce your total tax burden, uitillates, insurance, and education costs.

·        Clean House--A perfect chance to give away (its better tax wise to donate than sell your excess goods) all the stuff you collect to run a large household.  You will not need it or have time to use it in retirement.

·        It's Your Choice--Your location is no longer driven by "work." Now you can chose a location that allows you to chose the climate, living costs, amenities, social fit, and allows you to pursue your dreams.

 Considerations for Stay Put:

·        Real Estate--Can you get a fair value for your present house and will it carry your new retirement location?

·        Business Interest--Do you have a going concern that requires your oversight?  Or do you need to work part time and need the existing contacts?

·        Friends--Do you have friends that cannot be replace in a new location?

·        Family Ties--How often do you need to see the grandkids?

·        Home Area--Let face your comfortable here--you know where everything is--stores, medical support, schools, church, restaurants, and etc.  Plus I really like it here.

  • Unknown Jitters--Stay put cancels the risks of making wrong choices.

The Best of Both:

Stay in the cozy warm groove of your long time home, but move to a warmer, more active community for the bad weather months.   If you do this via a RV it's know as Snow Birding and thousands are doing it.

We will have a more in depth article later on Snow Birding.
